An Author's Blogging Resource

Turning Readers Into Adoring Fans

Have you heard; Author websites are the business cards of the publishing business? If you haven’t heard that it’s going to be hard for you to finish reading this info from under that rock.

Anyway, you’ve heard that because it’s true. But a pretty site isn’t enough to turn your adoring readers into fans. To do that your site must be interactive so they will want to return again and again.

But how do you do that?

Start a blog
Blogging is a way to write about whatever you’re passionate about. Some authors write about romance but blog about cooking. Others write about crime but blog about guns, crime prevention, detectives, and so on. You see the point. Or, did you recently read a great new book? Blog about it! Start a conversation by asking your readers to respond to a specific question. It’s your own personal cocktail lounge (or tea party) so make your guests feel comfortable, and encourage them to participate.

Though there are no rules in blogging, there are some standard expectations and things your readers may want to know;

  • What do you do when you’re not writing?  Decide how much of your personal info you want to share – if you’re not comfortable sharing your new baby or your recent trip, then be polite, but keep to the business basics.
  • What are you working on/writing now or hope to in the future?
  • How would you describe the themes you use in your writing, and why are they your concerns?
  • Offer incentives to readers who follow you; excerpts from novel, giveaways, etc.
  • What is your most recent magazine article, short story, book?  (offer a link)?

  • Call to action; How can readers stay in contact with you (Sign up for your email list or follow on social media?)
  • Call to action; buy my book, connect with me, check out my bio page….

Keep these things in mind as you write your blog posts each week, or month.

Remember; By becoming a blogger, you’ll have the ability to connect with your readers while building a platform.
